Through Reverence for All Life
Thurston Moore, President of Tennessee Players, Inc., will give the Keynote Address at the International Conference on Universal Harmony for All Life, to be held in New Delhi, India, December 6-7, 2002. His Excellency, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Honorable President, Republic of India, will inaugurate the conference and will speak following the Keynote Address. The conference is sponsored by the World Foundation on Reverence for All Life, headquartered in Pune, India, which believes that the the philosophy of Reverence for All Life underlies basic humanitarian considerations. The objective of the Foundation is to promote the spiritual, physical, mental, educational development and uplifting of adults and children of all ages without any restrictions to any caste, creed, or religion towards the ideal of "Vasudhalva Kutumbakam" (all creation is one family.) Mr. Bahri B.R. Malhotra, President of the W.F.R.A.L. said, "In view of the brutal acts of terrorism on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon in the United States, and attacks on the Indian Parliament last year, and the recent attack on Akshardham Temple, a dire need was felt to create an awareness of the world condition." Members of more than 100 organizations from all over the world are expected to attend the conference: The United Nations; World Health Organization; UNESCO, UNICEF; Human Resource Development departments of various countries; Human Rights Commissions; Ambassadors/Consuls; and Heads of Universities. Social organizations and spiritual leaders in India and abroad are expected to attend this international event and spread the message of reverence and love for all humanity. The Government of India and the Government of Maharashtra, and various academic institutions have agreed to extend their whole-hearted support to make this conference a success. A Delhi Declaration will be drafted at the conference as one unified theme of working and implementation of different projects related to bringing Universal Harmony through various tools and means suggested by different speakers in the hopes that this declaration will become the golden page in the History of the World for reforming society in order to bring about Universal Harmony. The following subjects will be delibereated at the conference: 1) Multi-Track diplomacy for Universal Harmony 2) Emotional Integration and Spiritual Understanding for Communal Harmony 3) Education for Mind, Body and Soul. 4) Reverence for All Life. A Move Towards Cosmic Consciousness. Deliberations will also be held on the ways and means to curb international terrorism. The recent developments in the History of the World are prominently marked by the Union of East Germany and West Germany as one Germany and the Union of all countries in Europe as the European Union. These examples, and others, will inspire the delegates to the conference to think of uniting people of India and Pakistan together for Peace and Harmony; uniting Israel and Palestine; uniting South Korea and North Korea together and many more. The heads of the World Foundation on Reverence for All Life firmly believe that unless each person and each society starts seeing itself as an indivisible and inseparable part of the total existence, it will not stop the killing of innocent people. The Foundation states that in the welfare and natural survival of all, lies the secret of the welfare and survival of each one of us. This wisdom will initiate an era of a new understanding of life and redeem humanity from all its pain and suffering and this is the aim of this international conference. Mr. Moore was invited to deliver the Keynote Address because he is known internationally as a leading advocate of Dr. Schweitzer's philosophy of Reverence for Life. Moore's non-profit theatre/arts organization, Tennessee Players, Inc., produces the Multimedia Musical Dramatization, "Words of Albert Schweitzer and the Music of Bach," which is being presented throughout the world in churches and universities. He came to the attention of the World Foundation in the year 2000 when they learned of the l6-day event, produced by Tennessee Players: "Symposium 2000 -World Peace through Reverence for Life," which was sponsored by Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. Moore is now working on a major 2-hour documentary film based on Tennessee Players' acclaimed production. Dr. Schweitzer was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1952. A missionary doctor, he established a hospital in Gabon, Africa; he was a world-renowned organist and authority on Bach and his music; an educator and a philosopher. Dr. Schweitzer considered his philosophy of "Reverence for Life" his primary contribution to the world. During Mr. Moore's Keynote Address he will deliver messages to the conference from Rhena Schweitzer Miller, Dr. Schweitzer's daughter, and from Arun Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi. Moore will end his Keynote Address with these words: "By the time I speak my last words here today how many people will be tortured, raped and killed? We must listen to the words of Dr. Schweitzer - and other great philosophers throughout history - whose words can lead us out of the darkness that enshrouds us .....if only we would listen. "I ask that each of you take back with you a commitment to reaffirm your dedication that our planet is too beautiful to destroy. Listen with your heart to children everywhere who have no chance to see the fulfillment fo their dreams. Unless each of us do our share now, this may be the last opportunity we have for making childhood dreams come true. Children and all mankind must come to know that the golden light of peace is beautiful." # (NOTE: This press release may be passed on to all media interested.) |
